You Don't Have to Be a Professional Decorator to Improve Your Home.

Is it time to start improving your home decor?  Any of our Fused Glass Plates will start you off to a fresh, new look to your home.

These Fused Glass Plates are hand-crafted by us and are one-of-a-kind. Even if we made a Matching Set of Fused Glass Plates for you, each one would be slightly different.  Any of these Fused Glass Plates would make an excellent gift for a friend or relative!

These Fused Glass Plates are made with two or three layers of glass fused together in our kiln and then slumped into a mold. These fused glass plates are much more substantial and would make excellent fused glass plates for a dinner party.

How We Fuse Our Glass Plates:

All of our Fused Glass Plates are fused in one of our kilns.  When we fuse a Glass Plate with just two layers of glass, we will cut a piece of glass the color or design that we want.  We also cut a piece of clear glass to fuse to the top of the other glass.  We put the two pieces of glass in one of our kilns and fuse it to about 1460 - 1475 degrees.  The temperature is determined by the type of glass, such as Spectrum 96 or Bullseye 90.

Other times, we will add designs to our Fused Glass Plates.  For example, the Basket Weave Fused Glass Plate has two pieces of clear glass fused together and then the iridized glass strips for the basket weave design were added on top.  We put it in the kiln and did a dimensional fuse, where we heat the kiln to 1400 degrees.  A dimensional fuse leaves some dimension to the iridized glass strips.

After each glass piece is fused, we always anneal, which means that after the glass is fused, we cool the kiln to 960 degrees and hold it there anywhere from 20 minutes for very small glass pieces to 3 hours for larger and thicker glass pieces.  Holding the temperature at 960 degrees allows the glass to relieve any stress caused by heating the glass.  If something isn't annealled properly, it will crack.

I hope this helps you with how we make some of our Fused Glass Plates!
